"An understanding of anatomy, physiology, structure and the way you combine the technology to create the desired results is what makes it Artistry." – Dr. Lisbeth Roy
As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat causing smile lines and crow’s feet to become more apparent. The cheeks flatten out, and the skin may begin to sag. The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Additional factors that affect the facial skin include heredity, lifestyle, nutrition and sun exposure.
Dermal fillers can be used to:
- Plump thin lips
- Enhance shallow contours
- Soften facial creases and wrinkles
- Improve the appearance of recessed scars
- Lift the appropriate area(s) of the face to recreate a natural youthful shape.
Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as an added part of other facial rejuvenation treatments.
Dermal fillers are natural gels that are injected into a specific area(s) to lift the skin. It temporarily adds volume and results in a smoother contour and more youthful appearance to the face. Dermal fillers are delivered by an injection into the cheeks, lips and surrounding area of the mid-face to correct volume and fullness.
Botox®, Xeomin® and Dysport®
Botox and Xeomin are prescription medicines that are injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows. They are typically performed on people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (average 3-4 months).
Botox®, Xeomin® and Dysport® are administered by Dr. Roy as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles between the brows and other areas where muscle contraction causes wrinkles. They work by blocking nerve impulses thus relaxing muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines and wrinkles.
Restylane® is used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth, or add fullness to your lips in patients over the age of 21. It is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid.
To avoid bruising and bleeding, you should not use the products if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. Products should not be used during pregnancy, when breastfeeding, or in patients under 18 years for nasolabial folds.
Belotero® is a prescription injection that is approved to temporarily smooth out and fill in moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds (the folds or wrinkles that go from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth). It is a hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable filler that completely integrates into the skin tissue. While some fillers are designed to rebuild facial volume and structure, Belotero® specifically treats moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles such as vertical lip lines above and around the lips.
Belotero® integrates with your skin’s tissue, helps smooth your moderate-to-severe etched-in facial lines and wrinkles, maintains normal movement and facial expressions and feels natural to the touch.
Radiesse® is a dermal filler that is used for smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases that extend from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth). Radiesse® is also used for correcting volume loss in the back of the hands. It is a viable option to help provide a long-lasting natural look while immediately smoothing wrinkles.
Radiesse® is injected through a small needle and placed under the skin. Immediately, this filler works to add volume under the skin and over time, the benefits of Radiesse® continue by naturally stimulating your body’s own natural collagen. The natural results have been shown to last a year or more in many patients, making the treatment results both immediate and long lasting.
Juvederm XC® injectable gel is a colorless hyaluronic acid gel that contains a small quantity of local anesthetic (lidocaine) and is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients, hydrate the skin by holding in water, and to act as a cushioning agent. The role of lidocaine is to reduce the pain associated with injections into the skin.
Juvederm XC® temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face. The lidocaine in the gel improves the comfort of the injection. It is injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur.
Juvederm Voluma® injectable gel is a smooth, colorless hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that contains a small quantity of local anesthetic (lidocaine). The role of HA in the skin is to deliver nutrients and help the skin retain its natural moisture and softness. The addition of lidocaine helps to improve the comfort of the injection. Juvederm Voluma® is manufactured using Vycross technology to give a specialized smooth-gel filler that produces long-lasting results at the treatment site.
